Scent Benefits: Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of natural, aromatic plant oils to improve one’s mood, behavior or health. Fragrances, like music, can enhance ambiance and set mood. Unlike music, fragrance can actually affect one’s physical being and offer therapeutic benefits. Use energizing fragrances in work spaces, exercise rooms, and wherever energy is needed. Use relaxing fragrances in the living room, bedroom, or anywhere you'd like a calming atmosphere.

There is a growing body of evidence that essential oils can

  • promote relaxation
  • reduce stress
  • enhance work performance
  • improve alertness
  • improve mood
  • energize
  • kill disease-causing microbes
  • create an antioxidant effect
  • reduce inflammation
  • relieve pain and depression

How does aromatherapy work?

Aroma from essential oils comes into contact with the brain via the body’s olfactory system, a part of the limbic system, which also supports emotion, behavior and long-term memory. Plant oils also have a direct pharmacological affect on disease.

Air/Q Aromatherapy technology

Air/Q technology is uniquely suited to aromatherapy delivery throughout a space because it doesn't use heating elements, propellants, solvents or any harmful VOCs. It's a safe and effective way to disperse the aroma throughout a space. All Air/Q aromatherapy fragrances contain the required percentage of pure essential oils to make a therapeutic claim. Air/Q’s patented microdroplet technology uniformly treats the air space, creating the desired effect using ultra-low concentration of liquid. The light weight of the micro-size droplets means that the aroma stays suspended in the air for as long as possible. Air/Q also has fully adjustable scent intensity and programmable start/stop times.

Aromatherapy Studies

Japanese and US research has found that lemon oil in vapor form improves mental accuracy and concentration, and is an anti-depressant: reducing stress and enhancing mood. Lemon also has antiseptic properties.

Research at the Univ. of Miami found that inhalation of lavender oil heightened relaxation (increased beta waves in the brain), reduced depression and improved cognitive performance.

Preliminary aromatherapy studies with sandalwood have indicated that it may have anxiety-reducing and stimulating properties.

Studies of rose oil have found it to reduce anxiety and decrease heart rate and blood pressure.
